Meet the Team

Melanie Cohen

Director

Melanie is an experienced business owner and managing director within the care industry with a track record in business development.  Passionate about delivering a quality service and leading a motivated team of staff.

I have a nursing background and spent my early adult years working as part of the hospital and community teams planning and delivering care.  I found my role hugely fulfilling and especially enjoyed being able to make a real difference not only to the patient themselves, but also to their families.  Driven by the lack of quality childcare options available when I had my first child, I set up a new business offering day care for children aged 3 months to 5 years.  Based on a high quality family centred approach, I led a motivated team and together we delivered care and education to the highest level achieving best outcomes for individual children and their families.  Using creative thinking and an informed understanding of statutory requirements and best practice, I developed the business to make us the leading setting within the local area.
 
Developing what was initially a hobby, I have in recent years been working as a fitness instructor and personal trainer, building up my own business with a specialist interest in rehabilitation and clients with complex requirements.
 
I am dedicated to forging a path for Bluebird Care (Bournemouth) to become a respected and forward thinking provider of home care in Dorset.  There is a great deal to do, but I am very excited to have the opportunity to make a real difference by providing the highest standard of care; promoting dignity, choice and independence; and enabling people to remain in their own home for as long as possible. 
 
I still very much enjoy many forms of fitness training, and can be found teaching yoga on a Saturday morning.  I also love to cook...which necessitates the ongoing fitness training!” 

Juliet Cohen

Director

Juliet is a driven, innovative and experienced sole trader of an established and successful fitness entity. As well as having worked as a loyal and motivating team player in a variety of larger businesses, she is also a natural leader and motivator empowering groups and individuals to achieve and succeed.

I love the thought of being able to make a difference to someone.  My clients include young emerging athletes, people trying to stay fit around family life, people with physical and learning difficulties, as well as people working to recover from injuries. 
 
I became interested in care when I started to become more involved with my own grandparents as their needs changed.  Trying to help them achieve a balance between staying safe and maintaining their independence has become increasingly difficult.  Sometimes we are required to think creatively to find a solution that satisfies their immediate and longer term needs and at the same time offers the extended family the reassurances they need.  It is often far from easy, but with effective communication and understanding there is usually a way.  
 
I am passionate about helping people to reach their full potential.  I was first attracted to Bluebird Care because of their strong ethos to provide the highest quality of care which enables people to choose where and how they want to live. Bluebird Care has a mission to change society’s views about domiciliary care providers and the way care workers are perceived and I am excited to bring this approach to Bluebird Care (Bournemouth) so that others like my grandparents can continue to enjoy life in the fullest.” 

Joanne Kelleher

Registered Care Manager

As Care Manager, Joanne has ultimate responsibility for the interests and well-being of all our customers and staff, in addition to the efficient day-to-day running of operations here at the Bournemouth office. Joanne is also responsible for recruiting the best care staff to join our team as well as managing and upholding our excellent home care services for our customers. Joanne oversees our training programme and ensures regulatory CQC compliance across our whole service. 

After 17 years working in banking and finance, I fell into the care sector almost by accident. I have worked with different customer groups for over 12 years, but I have found in domiciliary care that I can make such a positive impact. Enabling our customers to maintain their independence and remain in their own home environment, gives me great satisfaction.

I have always advocated a person-centered approach, placing the individual at the centre of their own care.

I am of the mindset that I treat, and expect my staff to treat my customers with the care, support and dignity that I would want for both myself and my family.

 

Karolina Piestrzeniewicz

Deputy Care Manager

Karolina works alongside Jo to ensure the  efficient day to day running of our service. She has 10 years experience in the Health and Social Care Sector, and is passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable individuals.
 

I will work to support our customers, and their team of Care Assistants to ensure the service and level of support received from Bluebird Care Bournemouth meets the very highest level of expectation.

Dave Whitt

Lead Care Coordinator

Dave has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the homecare sector, with both the experience supporting the needs and desires of customers directly as a Care and Support Worker and a Team Leader, but also has experience in various administrative roles. In his role as Lead Care Coordinator, Dave undertakes the often complex task of ensuring that you are matched with a core Care Assistant and support team to deliver your personalised care, 365 days a year.
 
Having been in the care and support sector since 2010, I have experience in working with adults of all abilities and age. I am passionate about providing a high quality and accountable service. 

I am very approachable and enjoy an environment that is hard working, professional and accommodating, of which Bluebird Care is second to none!
Emma Northover

Support Care Coordinator

As Support Care Coordinator, Emma works alongside Dave to ensure that our customers receive their personalised care, 365 days a year. 


 

Jelena Davey

Customer Support Administrator

Jelena is a long standing member of the Bluebird Care (Bournemouth) team, and is both knowledgeable and experienced in homecare. 

Jelena is responsible for helping to assess both the needs and desires of each person seeking support, and translating these into care plans that providethe framework for the delivery of your own personalised support.

Brian Colvin

Chief Executive

I owe a debt of gratitude to our dog breeder for the major change of career direction and the move into social care.

After many years of owning and running businesses, managing people and travelling the world I knew I needed a change, something that I could really relate to and believe in, something that was critical in its need to get right, and something that would directly improve the lives of people. Betty was a wonderful lady who helped us with our first golden retriever puppy and became a family friend. Through Betty I learned how distressing and disruptive the onset of dementia could be, but fundamentally I saw first-hand how bad the care that Betty received was, and the effect that had on her wellbeing. I knew it could be done better and the difference a compassionate approach to care could make – and my decision was made.

I founded Bluebird Care (Guildford and Waverley) in 2010, a business that has grown to become a respected and forward thinking provider of home care in Surrey, where I was born and spent my childhood.  The success of this business has been followed with the acquisition of Bluebird Care (Bournemouth) where there is a determination to build a service that enjoys the same reputation within the Bournemouth area. Whilst there is still a great deal more to do I love to see those ambitions to make a difference to others like Betty, become a reality."
