From 14-20 May it's time to unite to support Dementia Awareness Week and help raise vital funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

We’re proud to unite with the Alzheimer’s Society’s for Dementia Awareness Week 2017 from 14– 20 May 2017. This year’s theme is about us all getting together to make a difference.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading charity for dementia and provides information and support to anyone affected by dementia as well as raising vital funds for research into treatments and ultimately a cure for this devastating disease.

So many of us are affected by dementia. We may have it ourselves. Someone we love may have it. The changes it brings affect everyone involved and can alter life and relationships beyond recognition.

There are around 850,000 people in the UK with dementia, with over 42,000 under 65. In a very small number of people certain types of dementia can be inherited, with scientists investigating how dementia can run in the family.

Living well with dementia

A diagnosis of dementia in a family can be a terrible blow. It may be hard to see the future with any optimism. But that’s only part of the story.

We take care of people with dementia every day and are continually heartened by the difference we can make to people’s lives. Our teams are trained in advanced therapeutic techniques capable of altering the speed of decline of dementia care and restoring well-being and calm when positive change seemed beyond hope. These are techniques that reflect the latest pioneering research into dementia designed to tackle the disease in all its forms.

With these skills in our armoury, we help customers slow down the decline of their dementia and re-connect with the world. Time and again our customer’s families tell us “We’ve got Mum back”, “Dad is so much calmer and happier”.

Let’s get together

This Dementia Awareness Week, the Alzheimer’s Society is urging people, businesses and communities across Trafford to get together to create fundraising events. There are lots of ways to get involved. For more information, check out the Alzheimier’s Society website.
