We are hosting a free local event in Frome for older people as well as their family and friends, to find out more about what services are available to them to stay safe and independent in their own homes.

The event will feature stalls and displays from a broad range of organisations and services, all of whom support older people - ensuring they can make the most of later years. Tea, coffee and cake will be available to all attendees as well as musical entertainment, provided by Musicians South West.

Commenting on the event, Masen Naidoo, director of Bluebird Care Mendip said:

The over 65-year olds play an important part in our society. Not only have they contributed in previous years to the development of civic life, but they also add greatly to the economy, and give hundreds of hours of voluntary time to community groups.

We rely heavily on older people for all they do, not to mention the support they give by helping out with grandchildren.
The three-hour engagement event will include stalls from;

Mendip Mobility, Somerset Care and Repair, Wiltshire Farm Foods, the Alzheimer’s Society, Moger Drewett Solicitors, Mendip Community Transport, Musicians South West, Somerset You Can Do, Active and In Touch, Health Connections Mendip, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, Somerset Adult Social Care, the Royal Voluntary Service, Frome Men’s Shed, Swan Advocacy, Somerset Sight, the Bridge CafĂ©, Carer’s Voice Somerset and Bluebird Care (Mendip), Zing Somerset, Aster Living My Home My Life, Frome Community Cars to name just a few.

Masen added:

Too often, the older members of our society feel isolated with no one to talk to. Part of the job our care workers do includes spending time with people, keeping them company, and giving them a helping hand around the house.

Our free event will give older people a chance to meet others in similar situations and make new friends.  They will also be able to discover the array of organisations working in Frome to provide a better quality of life of our older residents and their families.
The event takes place at Frome Town Football Club, from 10.30am to 2.30pm– 4 pm on Friday 11th August 2017.
