In our latest blog our Live In Care Services Manager Sophia Rolfe tells us about the benefits of Live In Care.

Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is Sophia and I am the Live In Service Manager for Bluebird Care Exeter and East Devon.

I’ve recently realised that the benefits and details of having a Live In Service aren’t well known or understood so I have written the following blog to give you an introduction to it and the people who Live In Care benefits! I hope you find it useful, but it really is just a snapshot so if  you’d like more information or have any questions you’d like to chat through with me, please call me at the Exeter office on 01392 426006.

Firstly what is Live In Care?

I’ve found that many people think that the only way to get high quality 24 hour care is to go into a residential home but I wonder if they have ever considered having a Live In Care Assistant? A Live In Care Assistant allows a person, either on their own or with a loved one, to stay at home even when they require 24 hour care and support.

Having a Live In Care Assistant is about more than just having someone there to support with personal care and medication - it’s about having someone there to help a person keep doing the things they love and to remain as independent as possible.

For families the thought of having a parent or close friend at home on their own can be very stressful. I know that I worry about elderly relatives who live a long way away from me who I can’t pop in and see regularly. A Live In Care Assistant can alleviate much of the worry as you know that there is someone close to hand 24/7 who can react to your loved ones changing needs.

Who would benefit from a Live In Care Assistant?

Let’s look at Sid and Ethel. Ethel needs full support with her personal care and medication management while Sid only needs mild support, for example help putting his shoes and socks on. Through the Live In Service from Bluebird Care we will work with Ethel, Sid and their families to create a detailed care plan so that Ethel gets the high level of support she requires while Sid is able to maintain his independence. It’s about supporting our customers to keep living their lives as they wish to, in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home.

But a Live In Care Assistant isn’t just for the elderly; James is 24 years old and was born with Down’s Syndrome. James no longer wants to stay at home living with his parents but needs someone with him at all times to support with his meal preparation and social life. A Live In Care Assistant would be able to support James when he wants to go into town, go shopping or go to the cinema and work alongside him to create the meals he loves.

So that’s just two examples of how our Live In Care Service can enable people to maintain their independence and stay in their own home – but the possibilities are endless! To see more, check out our infographic “The Benefits of Live In Care”
