Bluebird Care Coleraine participate in the Virtual Dementia Tour

On Thursday 22nd March, the opportunity arose for our Care Manager, Jackie Boyle, and Tristan Sandford, Supervisor, to take part in the Virtual Dementia Tour at Ulster University Coleraine.  The Virtual Dementia Tour (VDT) uses sensory equipment to create the closest experience of what Dementia is like for those who are not living with the condition.

During the tour, participants were asked to wear goggles, headphones, insoles, and, large gloves to create the experience of how people with Dementia experience life with the loss of their primary senses and heightened anxiety.

Both of our participants found the experience to be an invaluable insight to how people with Dementia view the world.

After the tour Jackie Boyle, Care Manager, said:
‘With all my years of working with people who have Dementia it is only now that I truly understand the experiences of people with Dementia.  No other Dementia training I have completed has given me this level of insight into how the person sees the world, how they feel, and why they behave the way they do.  The Virtual Dementia Tour is fantastic.’
